Shelby to Bush: Declare Disaster in Alabama
March 1, 2007 — WASHINGTON, DC
U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) today, along with the entire Alabama Congressional delegation, requested a disaster declaration for weather ravaged parts of the state. Senator Shelby and his colleagues wrote a letter to President Bush in support of Governor Bob Riley’s request for a Presidential disaster declaration.

“The severe weather experienced in Coffee, Wilcox, and other counties in Southwest Alabama is devastating,” said Senator Shelby. “I will work with the Governor and my colleagues in Congress to ensure that every asset available to the federal government is called in to bring aid to the Wiregrass and other affected areas. I hope that the reaction to this disaster will be swift and efficient.”
